Alice Louise Johnson, 96, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the Steven's Home Plus, Barrett, MN. Alice was born August 17, 1919 in Baron, Wisconsin to Charles Edward and Amanda (Engesther) Miller. Her family moved to a farm near Brewster, MN where she attended District 53 Country School and graduated from Brewster High School in 1937. She continued her education at the University of MN Agriculture in St. Paul, MN. On September 7, 1940 she married the love of her life, John Raymond Johnson of Dundee, MN. After a honeymoon to Chicago, they made their home on a farm south of Norcross, Logan township. Two children were born to this union, Jack and Sandi. While raising her children, she helped with the farming operation. Alice was a true pioneer. As a young girl, she and her brothers picked field corn by hand, filling large wagons and farmed with horses. As a family, we shocked grain and baled hay together. She rode the back of the drill to pull levers. Alice always had a large garden. She enjoyed canning the fruits of her labor. She cooked and baked, and loved sewing and making quilts. Her love and commitment of family and the farm were unparalleled. The family wanted for nothing on the little farm south of Norcross. It was a wonderful world! As a family they camped, hunted and fished together. Winter travels took them to Arizona, Texas and Florida. Alice was a member of the Wild Rose Rebekah Lodge for over 30 years, active at the state level – Degree of Chivalry. A special thanks to Dona, Doug Stevens and staff for their loving care. Alice is survived by son, Jack (JoAnn) Johnson of Woodbury, MN, and daughter, Sandra Conn of Norcross, MN; 5 grandchildren, Jeff (Amanda) Johnson of Lake Elmo, Tamara Johnson of Norcross, Greg Johnson of Woodbury, Shanna (Gannon) Kilde of Azle, TX, and Jill Peterson of Minneapolis; 4 great-grandchildren, Reiss & Selma Sandler, Kahli Kilde and Greta Louise Johnson; sister, Eng Fenske of Rapid City, SD, and nephews, David, Brian, John and Tom Fenske. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Ray Johnson; brothers, Charles and Wesley Miller; and granddaughter, Jessica Louise Johnson. A private Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
