Almyra Kapphahn

November 22, 1927 — October 9, 2016

Almyra Kapphahn, age 88 of Elbow Lake, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls. Almyra Joanna Jorgens Kapphahn was born on Nov. 22, 1927 in rural Elbow Lake to Joseph and Anna Jorgens. She attended country school and Elbow Lake High School and graduated in 1945. After graduating she worked in Minneapolis. Her future father in-law introduced her to John Francis Kapphahn in September and they married on May 10th, 1947. She and Jack farmed in Bertha, Norcross, Fergus Falls and then moved to their present farm north of Elbow Lake in 1962. Jack and Almyra raised 5 children and worked hard to provide for them. Almyra sacrificed for her family milking cows, baking bread 2 to 3 times a week and preparing after school treats. Fresh from the oven, everything disappeared within minutes. Almyra was involved with homemakers, the American Legion and active in various women's groups at United Lutheran Church. Almyra was known for her wonderful home cooked meals. She often was found making pies and donuts as donations for church fund raisers and then washed many dishes for all of us. She affectionately earned the nickname "Grandma Donut" by her Great Grandchildren. Almyra is survived by children John, Jr. (Diane) of Elbow Lake, Rhonda (Bill) Lajko of Coon Rapids, Dianne (Rob) Auel of Alexandria, Dean (Diann) of Elbow Lake, Brian (Marcy Cawelti) of Elbow Lake, and family friend Merle Shuck (Judy); 15 grandchildren: Tamara, Jason, Rebecca, Michael, Daniel, Samuel, Samantha, Melanie, Jessica, Adam, Taylor, Stephanie, Vincent, Zachary, Daniel, Tanner and Matthew, along with 21 great- grandchildren; sister, Helen Melchert, of Brooklyn Center and brother, Thomas Jorgens (Michal) of Crookston; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Keith Kapphahn of Warroad, Richard Kapphahn of Wheaton, Dee Watts of Fridley, Lenore Costello of Minneapolis, Marian and Clare Kapphahn of Puposky, Lynn and David Kapphahn of Bertha, Ruth Jorgens of Fergus Falls, and many nieces and nephews.
