Ardis (Wik) Alvstad, age 88 of Evansville (formerly of Elbow Lake) passed away at Evansville Care Campus on October 3, 2024, under the care of Hospice. The family wishes to thank both the staff of the Evansville Care Campus and Hospice for their loving care of Ardis.
Ardis was born February 21, 1936, in Evansville, Minnesota to Clifford and Myrtle (Peterson) Wik. She graduated from Evansville High School in 1954. She was a secretary/bookkeeper for eleven years in Elbow Lake for Henry Hessel who was an insurance & loan officer. She also worked at the Village of Elbow Lake Office for one year.
On October 26, 1963, she married Marcus Donald Alvstad at the Calvary Covenant Church in Evansville. They farmed in Erdahl Township, Grant County, Minnesota until 1988, but continued living on their farm until September 2006, when they moved to Elbow Lake. The farm was a special place to visit and make wonderful memories for all of Ardis’ family and friends.
Ardis was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Ashby and active in Bible Studies and serving with the women’s serving group. She enjoyed baking and was known for her sweet treats, especially Amish Cookies. She also enjoyed embroidery, gardening, jigsaw puzzles and visiting. Ardis loved to entertain and to always keep in touch with friends and family. She and Marcus enjoyed many trips to the North Shore, other states and Canada.
She is survived by her sisters Marjorie Berry of Evansville, and Joyce (Roger) Langlie of Ashby; two nieces Tammy Bestul and Deb Berry; five nephews Steven (Janet) Buchholz, Daryl (Sandy) Buchholz, Scott (Martha) Buchholz, Gary (Karla) Buchholz, Troy (Teresa) Langlie and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews as well as cousins. Also, her sister-in-law Vernie Alvstad.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marcus on August 13, 2016, sister Carol (Howard) Buchholz, brother-in-law James Berry, nephew David Berry and grandnephew Dereck Benson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM at Peace Lutheran Church in Ashby on Saturday, October 12, 2024, with Pastor Dan Hermanson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Interment at Erdahl Cemetery, rural Erdahl.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Peace Lutheran Church and Douglas County Hospice.
Arrangements are entrusted to Erickson-Smith Funeral Home of Elbow Lake.
