Bernard Nord

Bernard Nord, 88 of Hoffman, died Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at his home.

Bernard Walter Nord was born in Milbank, South Dakota, on October 21, 1933, to Walter & Laura (Wagner) Nord. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. He attended school and graduated in 1953 from Milbank High School. Bernie worked at National Food in Milbank before going into the Army. He was stationed in Alaska from 1955 – 1957. After being honorably discharged, he began working at Wholesale Grocery.

On January 12, 1963, Bernard was united in marriage to DiAnn Rassat at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hoffman. In their early years of marriage, they bought the Variety Store in Hoffman. Bernie worked at Bellanca Aircraft for some years before working at the Hoffman High School until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, DiAnn of Hoffman; daughters, Vicki Johnson of Hoffman and Penni (Steve) Parshall of Lowry, and a son, Tim Nord of New Hope, MN; 4 grandchildren, Jesse Roth, Shanda Roth, Tracy (Kayla) Johnson and Cody Johnson; and sister, Bette Unker of Milbank, SD. Bernie is preceded in death by his parents, son, Jeff Nord and brother-in-law, Bill Unker.

Visitation will be from 5-7PM Sunday, at Messiah Lutheran Church with a 7:00 Prayer Service. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service.

A Memorial Service will be at 2:00 PM Monday, December 13, 2021 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Hoffman

Interment at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, Hoffman.

Military Honors: American Legion Post 393, Hoffman

Erickson-Smith Funeral Home of Hoffman is assisting the family with arrangements.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Knute Nelson Hospice of Alexandria.
