Carl Kruize, Jr., 84, was born June 19, 1930 to Carl and Roelfien (Frikken) Kruize.
Carl grew up on the farm in Elbow Lake. Completed 8th grade at a country school in Grant County. In his early 20's he joined the Army and worked on the Great Lakes as a Merchant Marine. Following that he owned the pool hall in Barrett, MN, then built and opened the L Bowl Lanes Bowling Alley in Elbow Lake with Harlan Woessner. After selling the bowling alley, he worked at the Grant County Highway Department where he eventually retired at the age of 62. He married Dona Mary Curtis May 23, 1961. They made their home in Elbow Lake, spending many summers on Pomme-de-Terre Lake. After retiring, Carl Jr. and his black Labrador took up the hobby of gopher trapping for local farmers. He will be missed and forever in our hearts. Jr is survived by son, Michael S. Kruize (partner Anita); daughters, Pamela A. Hubbard (Larry), Dawn D. Kruize (Steve), Rachael "Shelly" Gamache; 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Roelfien Kruize; wife, Dona; sons, Curtis (Skipper) & Patrick (Tag); brother, Bill Kruize and sister, Greta Roske. Carl Kruize, Jr., age 84, from Elbow Lake passed away at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls on July 10, 2014. Per Jrs. wishes there will be no services; the family will have a Celebration of his Life at the family cabin at a later date. The Erickson-Smith Funeral Home of Elbow Lake is handling the arrangements.
