Clara Foss

Clara Foss, 87, died Sunday, August 4, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society – Hoffman. Clara was born on March 28, 1926, in Morris, Minnesota, to Albert and Cora (Sandvig) Brandvold. She attended school through the 8th grade and, at age 15, married Melvin Foss on December 6, 1941, the day before Pearl Harbor, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Morris.
Clara and Melvin lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado, while Melvin served with the Army. After his discharge, they moved back to Morris where Clara worked at Shorty's Café. In 1971, she took a position with the University of Minnesota at the Morris campus as custodian/housekeeper. After retiring in 1987, Clara and Melvin moved to Barrett.
Her hobbies included making donuts, canning, cooking, baking, gardening and fishing. She loved Mel - she was a true servant. Clara loved her grandchildren and had a special love for granddaughter Amy, singing, "A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody" every time she saw her. Clara was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Barrett, the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries, and active with the Barrett Senior Citizens.
She is survived by children Leonard (Sandy) Foss and Bob (Donna) Foss, both of Winsted, Cheryl (Daryl) Tommerdahl of Elbow Lake, Pat (Don) Sauter of Victoria, and daughter-in-law Marilyn Foss of Young America; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; her sister Shirley (Larry) Graham of Anoka.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin (2010), son Melvin (2012), infant grandson Tony Foss, and four siblings, Annie, Irene, Violet and Anton. Memorial Service: 10:30 am Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, Peace Lutheran Church, Barrett Clergy: Rev. Matthew Rose Visitation: one hour prior Burial: Private
