David Edward Kleinschmidt

David E. Kleinschmidt, 74, of Hoffman, MN, died on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at CentraCare Hospital, St. Cloud, MN.

David Edward was born on January 2, 1950, in Bertha, MN, the son of Rueben Henry and Lorena Adeline (Wolfgram) Kleinschmidt. He was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Bertha, MN. He graduated from Bertha High School in 1967. 

After High School, David served in the US Army from 1970 -1972 active duty and until 1977 in the Army Reserves. He honorably served in Ordinance and received numerous metals and decorations including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Overseas Bars, Army Commendation Medal and Sharpshooter Badge. 

After his faithful service he worked as a truck driver. David’s true passion was agriculture where he farmed for the most part of his life. 

His interests included fishing, farming, music and an unwavering excitement for all things racing. In his younger years he participated in many tractor-pulls, winning numerous titles. He cherished the time he spent attending his grandkids sporting and extracurricular events. God bless the memory of David Edward Kleinschmidt. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rueben and Lorena and a nephew, Michael Kern. David is survived by his daughter, Amanda (Brandon) Sykora of Beardsley, MN; sons, Josh (Brandie) Behl of Rancho Cucamonga, CA and Jeremy Behl of Blaine, MN; six grandchildren, Morganne, Sophia, Carma, Avah, Drew and Shireez; three siblings, Jeanie (Dan) Wendorf of Rochester, MN, John (Julie) Kleinschmidt of Tennessee and Lori Kern of Wadena, MN; along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

A celebration of David’s life will take place on Saturday, March 16, from 2-4 P.M., with a 3:30 prayer service at the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Hoffman. Military Honors will be provided by the MN Army Honor Guard. The family kindly requests after the service all are welcome to   Bullfrog’s Bar & Grill, 100 Dakota Avenue, Hoffman, MN 56339 for a reception.
