David Lloyd “Ole” Olson, 66, of rural Kensington passed away Thursday, November 5, 2020 as a result of a car accident.
Ole was born on January 2, 1954, in Alexandria, Minnesota, the son of Lloyd and Audrey (Person) Olson. He was baptized and confirmed in Oscar Lake Lutheran Church. Ole attended Kensington High School, graduating in 1972, he attended Fergus Falls Community College and participated in the Big Brother Program, then furthered his education in the diesel mechanic program at Alexandria VoTech.
On July 10, 1976 Ole married his sweetheart in the Eden Reformed Church in Herman, Minnesota. He always called Patti “The most beautiful woman in the world.” They began their marriage living in Morris where he worked for Morris Blacktop, Lohr Construction, Stevens County Sheriff’s Office, truck driving for John Deere, and driving school bus.
Ole and Patti were blessed with two children, Shane and Stacey. Ole was a family man and attended nearly every activity that his children and grandchildren participated in. In 1983, they took over operation of the Olson family dairy farm, and later raised holstein heifers, naming their farm “Olson’s Heifer Haven.” After transitioning out of farming, Ole worked as a driver for Rainbow Rider. He then worked for West Central Sanitation and Andes Tower Hills before starting with Halliburton Energy in Williston, North Dakota. At every one of his jobs, Ole always had a story to tell and loved connecting with people.
Ole treasured his time riding motorcycle, especially as a member of the Patriot Guard. He also enjoyed classic cars, the Bee Gees, socializing, instructing swing dancing, hosting annual neighborhood picnics, going to county fairs, and people watching. For several years, Ole and Patti hosted participants in foreign exchange programs. But most of all, he simply cherished life and loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Ole had a great sense of humor and delighted in playing pranks and telling jokes. He played with the Kensington Norseman baseball team, coached 4-H softball and was a 4-H adult leader. He was on the Douglas County Zoning Board, Douglas County Farm Bureau Board, and the Douglas County American Dairy Association. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as an elder.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Olson; two children, Shane (Sarah) Olson of Garfield and Stacey (Paige) Baker of Williston, ND; two grandchildren, Briana and Gavin Olson of Garfield; mother, Audrey Olson of Alexandria; two sisters, Pamela (Roger Carnes) Olson of Vadnais Heights and Patricia (Steve) Olson of Eden Prairie; nieces and nephews; and by numerous relatives and friends. David was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Olson and sister, Debbie Olson.
