Deanna “Dee” Mae Galloway ended a year's long battle with Lewy Body Dementia, surrounded by loved ones, on Tuesday, September 10th, 2024. She was 66 years young.
Dee was born January 3rd, 1958, in St. Paul, Minnesota to Alice (Maland) Sanders and Chester Finseth. As a child, Dee was very close to her mother and would follow her around wherever she went. As an adult, Dee worked as a CNA as she loved helping those around her. She worked hard to be independent and never asked for help from anyone. Dee had a fun and silly sense of humor, she loved to tease those she cared about. She enjoyed bowling, could never get enough of good chocolate, and loved animals. Her two cats, Bitty and Boots, were her constant companions until Lewy Body Dementia no longer allowed her to live at home. She continued to live in St. Paul for most of her life until she moved to Maplewood Manor in Elbow Lake, MN in 2020. She would spend the remainder of her life there.
The most important things in her life were her children Crystal and Mark Jr. and she loved them with everything she had. Dee was a dedicated mother who always made her kids feel special. She included her children in everything she could. After Crystal was moved into a home for developmentally disabled adults, Dee still spent as much of her free time with her as possible, taking long bus rides back and forth to go on outings together. These trips continued until Crystal’s death in 2014. She always made sure Mark Jr had a Dairy Queen cake for his birthday, enough Xbox live gift cards to last him a lifetime and more candy then he could ever eat. One of Dee’s fondest memories were the trips she took with the kids to Disney World with their father. She loved to reminisce about the plane ride and spending time in the park and how special it was for all of them. Crystal and Mark were the light of her world.
Dee spent the last four years of her life in the Maplewood Manor Memory Care Unit. Her family is so thankful from the bottom of their hearts for the wonderful care that was provided to her during her time there. It was so comforting to know that she was spending time with staff that truly cared for her and also wanted what was best for her. They made her final years safe, fun, and as healthy as they could be. Dee was so lucky to have her brother Donny and his wife Patti who chose such an amazing facility and spent so much of their time and energy making sure she had what she needed and all that of her affairs were handled. Donny and Patti were very special people to Dee and she loved them immensely
Dee was preceded into death by her daughter Crystal Galloway, father Chester Finseth, and sister Diane Krenz.
Dee will be fondly remembered by her son Mark (Jessica) Galloway Jr, her mother Alice Sanders, her brothers David (Patty) Finseth, Don (Patti) Finseth, her sisters Dorothy (Bernie) Lipinski, Colleen (Chuck) Harrison, Janet (Bill) Murphy, and her many nieces and nephews.
Dee will be interred at the Union Cemetery in St. Paul next to her daughter Crystal so they can continue to be together as Dee always loved. May we find comfort in our memories of her.
