Dona Kruize, 75, of Elbow Lake, died Saturday, September 19, 2009, at the ELEAH Medical Center in Elbow Lake. Dona's wish was for a private family service; however, friends are invited to share memories and celebrate Dona's life by joining her family at their cabin on Pomme de Terre Lake, 15024 Lower Sandy Road, Ashby, at 3:00 pm Wednesday, September 23, 2009. The family prefers memorials be made to the American Legion Auxiliary, the ELEAH Medical Center, or to the donor's choice.
Dona was born on February 14, 1934, in Williston, North Dakota, to Kenneth Curtis and Dorothy L. (Curtis) Peterson. She grew up in Elbow Lake.
On May 23, 1961, Dona married Carl Kruize Jr., and they made their home in Elbow Lake where they owned and operated the L-Bowl Lanes bowling alley until 1970. After the sale of the business, Dona worked as a dietary aide at the Grant County Hospital for over 23 years. Following her retirement, she spent many years enjoying her summers at the lake cabin on Pomme de Terre Lake.
She enjoyed bowling with her close friends on her team, The Gutter Dusters. Her greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Carl Kruize Jr. of Elbow Lake, and her children Michael Kruize (Anita) of San Jose, CA, Pamela Hubbard (Larry) of Elbow Lake, Patrick Kruize (Judy) of Wendell, Dawn Kruize of Truckee, CA, and Rachael Gamache of Cincinnati, OH; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth Curtis (Gerri) of Auburn, CA, Lyman Curtis of Palm Springs, CA, and Jack Curtis (Marie) of Sonoma, CA.
