Donald Wiese

Donald Wiese, 84, of Elbow Lake, died Monday, March 6, 2017, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls. Donald Henry Wiese was born on April 8, 1932 on the family farm in Stony Brook Township, Minnesota, the son of Emil and Edna (Woessner) Wiese. He attended country school and graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1950. In 1951, Don was united in Marriage to Katherine DeLagoon at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls, and they made their home near Elbow Lake where they farmed. In 1954, Don was drafted into the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1956, serving in France and Germany. Upon returning to Elbow Lake, Don purchased the Sand farm near Elbow Lake and farmed there the rest of his life. In his spare time, Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, trips to the casino, and morning coffee with his friends. He looked forward to Sunday night card games with his family, a forty-five year tradition. Don was a member of the Elbow Lake American Legion and St. Olaf Catholic Church in Elbow Lake. Don is survived by his five children, Linda (Lonnie) Olson of Elbow Lake, Kristi (Larry) Biss of Wendell, Debra (Tom) Jennen of Fergus Falls, Tim (Sue) Wiese of Elbow Lake, and Shelly (Ron) Johnson of Alexandria; 11 grandchildren, Lacey (Ben) Gossett, Ryan (Tina) Biss, Cory (Stacy) Biss, Matt (Erica) Jennen, Brent (Tiffany) Jennen, Rachel (Keith) Leier, Derek (Alyssa) Jennen, Taylor Wiese, Aaron Wiese, Kaden Johnson, and Kinzie Johnson; 12 great-grandchildren, Mia, Ailie, Ava, Emme, Coen, Katy, Grace, Henry, Tyson, Sylvie, Trenton, and Kolton; a sister, Dorothy Westrom of Elbow Lake; brother-in-law, Ben DeLagoon of Fergus Falls; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine, on August 20, 2011; two brothers, Raymond (Elaine) and Edward; two sisters, Ellen (Knute) Westrom and Verna (Floyd) Olsen; and a brother-in-law, Norman Westrom. Visitation: 3 – 5 PM Sunday, at Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Elbow Lake, and one hour prior to services at the church.
