Doris Elaine Frykman, age 89, of Barrett, passed away peacefully at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls, Minnesota on Saturday, September 13, 2014.
She was born on October 30th, 1924 to Oscar and Agnes Anderson of rural Erdahl Township, Grant County, Minnesota. Doris attended country school (she boasted about being the Erdahl girls basketball coach) and graduated from Barrett High School. After graduation, she moved to Minneapolis with her sister Alice and worked as a baker in a restaurant. In 1946, she moved back to Erdahl where she and Preus Frykman were married. They settled on the Frykman Dairy Farm where she spent her working life milking cows, raising chickens, gardening and most importantly, looking after their four children. Her family was her life and she taught them the values they aspire to this today: strength, courage, creativity, value of humor, honesty, trustworthiness and the importance of a supportive family. She was active in the Zionsborg, Fridhem and Peace Churches, and multiple community organizations: homemakers, ladies bowling league, 4-H, her children's school activities, quilting groups at church, local senior citizen groups, attended her grandkids activities and most recently, became involved in the Vart Hjem apartment social group. Doris made her home at the PioneerCare Nursing Home for the past twenty months under their attentive and respectful care. Doris met her health challenges with grace and courage. Doris is survived by her four children, Doug (Marilyn) Frykman of Barrett, MN, Darrell (Susan) Frykman of Elbow Lake, MN, Connie (James) Warde of Elbow Lake, MN and Kristine (Gary) Lien of Elko-New Market, MN; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; brother, Russell Q. (Alice) Anderson of Fergus Falls, MN; sister, Alice Gorman of Spring Lake Park, MN; sister-in-law, Florence Anderson of Elbow Lake; and brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Dora Frykman of California; along with several nieces and nephews and her friends at the Vart Hjem apartment complex. Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Agnes and Oscar; husband Preus; brothers, Lawrence, Willard (Janie), and Orville (Darlene); brothers-in-law, Malcolm Baird and William Gorman; nephews Michael and Layne Anderson; and niece Deb Christenson. Doris was a loving and supportive wife, mother, the "ultimate" grandma, devoted sister and trusted friend. She will be truly missed but is finally at peace and without pain. We bless her memory.
