Duane Marvin Samuelson, 69 of Kensington, died Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Alomere Health, Alexandria.
Duane was born to Morris and Lillian (Gunderson) Samuelson on July 4, 1952 at St. Lukes Hospital in Alexandria, Minnesota. The building is still located a block west of Subway, south of the old Central Pool. He was baptized into the Christian Faith at Solem Lutheran Church, Kensington. While growing up in the Kensington area on the century farm where his mother was born and raised, he attended church, Sunday school, and was also confirmed at Solem Church. Duane attended and graduated from Hoffman High School where he was active in Band, Choir and FFA (Future Farmers of America). He was in 4-H where he was State Ambassador during the early years of the Minnesota Ambassador program. Duane furthered his education at the University of MN, Crookston, graduating with a degree in agriculture. He went on to North Dakota State University, graduating with a degree in Agriculture Education.
While attending a 4-H Citizenship Short Course in Washington, DC, Duane met Darlene Possehl. On June 29, 1974, Duane and Darlene were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Sabin, Minnesota. To this union, four children were born, Andrew, Philip, Louis, and Jennifer.
Duane worked in the loan department at United Federal Savings and Loan in Alexandria for ten years and was an instructor for thirty years at Alexandria Technical and Community College.
Throughout his life, Duane was a member of Solem Lutheran in Kensington, Bethesda Lutheran in Alexandria, and Messiah Lutheran in Hoffman – being active on the church councils and choirs. He was on the Douglas County Extension Committee, was a 4-H adult leader, and was a member of the Douglas County Fair Board for 14 years.
Duane cherished his time spent with family, going on camping trips, fishing, and spending time outdoors working on his lawn, garden, and cutting wood.
