Earl B. Thorstad, 94, of Hoffman, MN died on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Barrett Care Center. Earl Thorstad was born on April 15, 1923 at his family home in rural Hoffman. The son of Ole Bernard and Cora (Munson) Thorstad. He was the second of twelve children.
Earl was baptized and confirmed at Lands Lutheran Church. He attended rural country school District #49 in Hoffman. He worked as a farm hand helping at various farms around the Hoffman area.
Earl enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII where he proudly served his country. During his military career, he was honored by walking first in line in a Bowl parade in Texas where he was stationed. After his honorable discharge he began his life career working as a carpenter and took great pride and enjoyment in his work in which he was very skilled. Earl was a strong and reliable person who you could depend on to do what was right.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing and whittling. He whittled miles of chain without a seam. He could often be found socializing at the Dew Drop Inn or at the Barrett Cafe. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his nieces and nephews.
He is survived by three generations of nieces and nephews; several cousins and two sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burney and Cora; brothers, Myles, Eugene, LeMay, Orville, Kenneth and Maynard; sisters, Geneva, Irene, Lois, Bernice and Ruth.
