Edith Ann Eliza Arnquist Anderson Johnson, 96, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at the Evansville Care Center. She was born November 3, 1916, to Nels and Lillian Arnquist in Hoffman, Minnesota, where she grew up and graduated from high school. Edith attended St. Cloud State University and graduated in 1936 with a teaching degree. That same year she taught at Round Lake Country School in the Hoffman area. On September 3, 1938, Edith and Warren "Happy" Anderson eloped to Webster, South Dakota, where they were married. They were together 34 years during which time they built two of their homes together and raised their three children in the Elbow Lake and Barrett areas. They were able to spend time together enjoying their grandchildren and taking them on outdoor adventures. Edith also taught many years at the elementary school in Barrett, Minnesota. She retired in 1973, after Warren's death in 1972, to help care for her parents. She married Vernon Johnson on April 10, 1984, in Alexandria, Minnesota; Vernon died on July 23, 1995. Edith was active in Eastern Star, Study Club, VFW, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was very involved with her family, never forgetting any occasion and following their accomplishments, especially those of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with sports, music and arts, academics and other special events. She enjoyed flowers in her yard, music and playing the piano, poetry and even wrote many poems. Edith was very well educated and took pride in keeping up with the ever changing times and current events. She loved to get out and do things, whether it was a drive to look at autumn leaves, a trip, shopping, out for lunch, or planning a party. She leaves many wonderful memories with her family of these special times over the years. She lived a life full of love and grace and will be remembered by many whom she touched during her life. Edith is survived by her three children, Stuart (Carolyn) Anderson of Elbow Lake, Rosalind (Vincent) Johnson of Melby, and Leonard (Linda) Anderson of Mt. Carroll, Illinois; 13 grand-children, 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
