Elda I. Symonds, formerly of Fargo, ND, died at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne, IN, on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012. Funeral Service: 1:30 pm Monday, Feb. 27, Lawrence Presbyterian Church, Wendell Visitation: One hour prior to the service Burial: Lawrence Presbyterian Cemetery Elda was born on July 6, 1922, to Lewis and Mabel Symonds of Wendell, Minnesota. She was raised in the Lawrence Presbyterian Church, rural Wendell, graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1940 and St. Cloud Teacher's College in 1942. Her graduate work in teaching was at Moorhead Teacher's College. At the beginning of her career, she taught in Districts 12, 49, 45, and Dalton and Fertile. Elda taught 5th grade at Hawthorne Elementary School in Fargo, North Dakota, for over three decades before her retirement in 1986. She also taught religious education classes after school. Elda was an active member in Fargo at the First Assembly of God. In retirement, Elda traveled throughout the world and supported numerous ministries and mission projects. She spent the last 16 winters with family members living in a retirement community, Florence Gardens, in Florence, Arizona. She is survived by three sisters, Arlyne Symonds (Ft. Wayne, IN), Bette (Ralph) Christensen (Campbell, MN) and LaDonna (Norval) Johannessohn (Ft. Wayne, IN). Elda is also survived by three nieces, one nephew, five great nieces and one great nephew.
Elda was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Kenneth Symonds.
