Eljene Amundson

Eljene Amundson, 91, of Elbow Lake, died Friday, October 7, 2016, at Prairie Ridge Hospital in Elbow Lake, MN. Eljene Harriet Nelson was born August 16, 1925 near Wendell, MN, the daughter of Swante and Gurine (Lien) Nelson. She attended school in Wendell, and graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1943. Eljene attended Concordia College in Moorhead for a year and Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. After receiving her education, she worked at Northwest Airlines in Minneapolis as a secretary for two years. On August 2, 1947, Eljene married Orvin Amundson at St. John's Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake, and they were blessed with four children. Eljene devoted her life to raising her family and to music. Best known for her work as a piano teacher and church choir accompanist, Eljene was actively teaching and accompanying for more than thirty years. She was a member of United Lutheran Church, where she was a member of DORCAS, homemakers auxiliary, various circles and tribes, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Eljene is survived by her husband of 69 years, Orvin, of Elbow Lake; three children, Mark (Marlys) of Sebring, Florida, Buzz (Barb) Amundson of Elbow Lake, and Julie (Allen Alston) Amundson of Shoreline, WA; eight grand-children, Corey (Valerie), Kurt (Amber), Kevin (fiancée Jessica), Kari (Dale) Hartman, Trisha (Jack) Brann, Kimberly (Kevin Vickers) Swanson, Zachary Alston, and Hunter Alston; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Gretchen Swanson of Waite Park, MN; and three nieces, Debra McAlister, Tamara McClintock, and Cheryl Blockley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Paul Stewart; a brother, Orvel Lien Nelson; a brother-in-law, Dale Swanson; and two nieces, Carmen Peterson and Stephanie Nelson.
