Elly Brewster

Elly T. Brewster, known to many as Oma, passed away on Saturday, March 19th surrounded by family at Eventide Nursing Home in Moorhead, MN at the age of 78. Elly was born in Bulkes, Yugoslavia on March 31st, 1937. After surviving WWII, she did what so many German girls did and married an American soldier with whom she relocated an average of once per year. After 18 years of marriage and 3 wonderful children, they were separated. Elly raised her three children, who had each been born in a different state/country, worked three jobs, and was single for 25 years. After retiring from American Crystal Sugar and longing for a true companion, a stable home, and to be a content homemaker, she finally found that life and inner peace in Elbow Lake, MN with her love, Rodney. The family of Elly is so grateful she wrote and published her life's story in her book Silkworm. They will remember her through this, their memories, and all of her gifts as a devoted seamstress, gardener, baker, and her many crafty creations. Elly is preceded in death by her son, Richard, and her companion, Rodney Christianson. She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Mogard (Mark Nelson) and Jane Aubol (Tony Spiesz), sister, Irma Reitmeir, as well as 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, remembering her as their beloved Oma. Elly was also considered Oma to the family of Rodney Christianson, after living on the farm with them for 15 years. Funeral services, arranged by Erickson-Smith Funeral Home, will be Saturday, April 9th at 2 p.m. and held at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, MN.
