Elmer L. Hagen Hagen of Hoffman, formerly of Fridley, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at the age of 90.
Born April 30, 1927 on the family farm outside of Hoffman, Minnesota, Elmer held a lifelong love of the outdoors and attributed his longevity to “clean living and fresh air.” An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed nothing better than hunting, fishing, and canoeing--sharing this passion with all those that loved him. After graduating from the West Central School of Agriculture in 1945, Elmer served in the Marine Corps from 1946 to 1951, before embarking on a successful career as a road equipment parts manager for 41 years in Fridley, Minnesota. He retired back to the family farm at the age of 65, where he spent many happy years caring for the land, hosting family get-togethers, watching Westerns with Kitty, and relaxing on the deck with a Bud Light.
Elmer will forever be missed and remembered by his children, Jerry (Geri) Hagen, Dave (Cathy) Hagen, and Susan (Claude) Roff; grandchildren Jennifer (David) Gladwin, Justin (Andrea) Hagen, Kevin Hagen, Abby (Adam) Skartvedt, Kelsey (Brian) Hagen Baumann, Kayla Hagen, Anthony Roff, and Brett Hagen; great-grandchildren Eddie Hagen, Hannah, Ava, & Emma Gladwin, Reier Skartvedt, and Evelyn Hagen; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents Alfred and Anna Hagen; wife Edna; brothers Edgar Hagen and Einer Hagen; sisters Alphia McCollor and Alice Hanson; and granddaughter Anna Roff.
All those that knew and loved Elmer are invited to celebrate his life at a visitation held on Thursday, November 9 at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel in Eden Prairie from 5:00-8:00pm. The funeral will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman on Saturday, November 11, with visitation from 10:00-11:00am, followed by a service, burial, and luncheon at the church.
