Francis Finke, 76, of Barrett, died Saturday, September 26, 2009, at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria. Memorial services for Francis Finke will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, October 3, at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Elbow Lake with Fr. Arlie Sowada officiating. Family will greet friends beginning at 5:00 pm Friday at the church with parish prayers at 7:00 pm. Visitation will resume at the church one hour before services on Saturday.

Francis Delano Finke was born in Heron Lake, Minnesota, on June 8, 1933, to Albert and Helen (Luft) Finke. After graduating from high school in Okabena, he joined the U. S. Air Force. Francis served four years, with two years in Japan, and was honorably discharged in 1956. On February 9, 1959, he married the love of his life, Janice Sherack, at Lakefield, Minnesota. To this union, six children were were born. The couple made their home in Worthington where Francis was a machinery salesman and did carpentry work. In 1986, Francis and Janice moved to the Twin Cities where they lived for 12 years before moving to Barrett in 1998. Francis enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling the United States, woodworking, playing cards, and yardwork. He was actively involved with the Barrett Legion and was instrumental in establishing the Barrett Veterans Memorial. Francis especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife Janice of Barrett, children Cathie (Nathan) Ostermann of Daleville, VA, Deb (Wes) Wolfswinkle of Pipestone, Bob Finke and Mary Knickelbine of Fridley, Kelly (Aimee) Finke of Crooks, SD, and Linda (Heath) Larson of Lennox, SD, and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son. Memorials are preferred to the Barrett Veterans Memorial.
