Gary Salwasser, age 71, from Elbow Lake, passed away Monday, January 5, 2015 at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. Garold "Gary" Arthur Salwasser was born December 27, 1943 in Riverview Hospital in St. Paul, MN to parents, Earl & Virginia (Swanson) Salwasser. Gary attended South St. Paul School, graduating in 1961. He attended college before entering the Marine Corps on July 9, 1965. He held a rank of Lance Corporal (E-3). He received a Good Conduct Medal and M-14 Rifle Marksmanship Badge before being honorably discharged on September 20, 1967. Gary was united in marriage to Donna Marie Bouder in South St. Paul on February 17, 1968. The couple resided in South St. Paul where they raised their two children, Jennifer and Steve. Gary drove truck for Roadway Express until his retirement in 1999. The couple then moved north to Elbow Lake where they have made their home since 2000. Gary was a lifelong member of Teamsters, a member of Ashby Legion Post 357 and of Tipsinah Mounds Golf Course. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and spending winters in Mesa, Arizona with Donna. Gary was an avid Minnesota sports fan. Survivors include Donna, his wife of 45 years of Elbow Lake, MN; daughter, Jennifer (Todd) Lawrence of Cottage Grove, MN; son, Steven (Rhonda) Salwasser of Wendell, MN; sisters, Linda (Leroy) Czeck of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Cindy (Steve) Johnson of South St. Paul, MN; brother-in-law, David (Laura) Bouder, Post Falls, Idaho; four grandchildren, Mackenzie, Brad, Alex & Ryan, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Virginia, and sister, Kathy Polzack. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held at the South St. Paul VFW on Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 11:00AM to 2:00PM. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Wendell Community Center on Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 2:00PM until 5:00PM.
