Gene Rollofson, 84 of Hoffman passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at the Hoffman Senior Living where he was a resident.
Gene Sheldon Rollofson was born September 18, 1936, in Elk Lake Township, Grant County, Minnesota to Olaf and Gladys (Holmen) Rollofson. He was baptized on November 15, 1936 and confirmed into the Lutheran faith on June 11, 1950 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Barrett, MN. He graduated from Barrett High School as Valedictorian of his class on May 28, 1954. In 1955 he entered into the US Army, being honorably discharged in 1957.
On August 26, 1967, Gene married Marlys Carlson at the Barsness Lutheran Church, in rural Glenwood, MN. They began their married life together on a grain and dairy farm in Elk Lake Township, farming, and raising their family. Gene & Marlys moved to Hoffman in 2014. Gene moved into the Barrett Care Center in 2017, before becoming the first resident of the new Hoffman Senior Living facility in July of 2018.
Gene served on the church boards at Lincoln and Messiah Lutheran Churches, the Barrett School Board, and the Elk Lake Township Board. He enjoyed the MN Twins, fishing, traveling, reading books (particularly westerns and mysteries), and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He cherished the time spent with his family.
Gene is survived by his wife, Marlys; son, Chad (Gwen) of Barrett, 3 daughters, Cindy (Kelly) Haugrud of Rothsay, MN, Cheri (Troy) Puetz of Mishawaka, IN, and Cristy (Wade) Haugeberg of West Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Brandon & Matthew Haugrud, Taj, Raehs & Tobias Puetz, Evan & Willa Rollofson, Bryce, Jake, Rylie & Tessa Haugeberg; sister-in-law, Carol Dokken; several cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Kaed Puetz; parents, Olaf & Gladys; parents-in-law, John & Alma Carlson; sister Joanne (Orrin) Heieie; brother-in-law, Stanley Dokken; niece, Kathy Bogie, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Hoffman
Visitation: 4:00 - 7:00 PM Friday, April 23 at Messiah Lutheran Church with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the Church.
