Gerald Keith Haugen, 67, of Elbow Lake passed away peacefully Saturday, March 14, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born on March 31, 1947, in Fergus Falls, MN the son of Carl and Edna Mae (Sand) Haugen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Jerry graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1965 and continued his education at Humboldt Technical School in Minneapolis studying transportation management. He later enlisted with the U.S. Army Reserves serving from 1966 - 1972. Jerry and Dee Ann Sumstad were married on May 11, 1990, in Elbow Lake. After their marriage they lived on Jerry's home farm on Round Lake. He was employed by the Grant County Highway Department as a Surveying Technician for 42 years retiring in 2009. Jerry loved time with his family and friends visiting and spending time at Lightning Lake. His hobbies included being outdoors hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and four-wheeling. He also enjoyed watching all sports especially teams from Minnesota. He was a member of United Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post both of Elbow Lake. Jerry is survived by his wife Dee, six children and seven grandchildren: Rick Bestul (Madison) and fiancée Kelly McCormick of Hutchinson, MN; Renee and Todd Larson of Ham Lake, MN; Rhonda Dupras of Campbell, MN (Natashia Tatom and Daniel Priem of Grand Junction, CO); Nicole Sumstad (Brady) of Elbow Lake, MN; Darin and Therese Sumstad (Lindsey Sumstad and Emma Meyer) of Forest Lake, MN; Lezlie Sumstad and Mitch Korkowski (Brittany) of Brandon, MN; sister Anna Marie Johnson and Paul Pratt of Fargo, ND; brother Steven and Judy Haugen of Chesapeake, VA; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Edna Mae Haugen; brothers-in-law Dexter Johnson and Dale and Wayne Anderson; and by sister-in-law Joyce Huseth. Funeral Service: Thursday, March 19, 2015, at 1 pm at United Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake. Visitation: Wednesday, March 18, 2015, from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Clergy: Rev. Jean Ohman Military Honors: Carl A.
