Helen Marion Pederson, age 89, of Barrett, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at the home of her daughter in Iowa.
Helen was born November 5, 1927 to Johnny and Alice Olson. She grew up with her brothers Bill and Buddy, and sister Shirley. She graduated from Hoffman High School.
Helen thoroughly enjoyed a number of activities including bowling, bingo, playing cards, reading watching westerns, and spending time with her family. In 1947, she married the love of her life, Lawrence Pederson in the living room of Helen's childhood home. They made their home in Barrett in 1952. In addition to raising two children, Michael and Faye, she tried out a number of career paths including working at the Grant County hospital, a dental office in Elbow Lake, and owning a drive inn with her sister-in-law Marion before she settled into being the Postmaster in Barrett, working with her husband who delivered the mail until they retired.
Helen was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and enjoyed being involved with the Ladies Aid, Senior Citizens and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Helen is survived by her son, Michael (Delida) Pederson of Barrett; daughter, Faye (Don) Haraldson of West Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Raegan (Richard) Walker of Peyton, CO, Nicole Pederson of Chicago, IL, Jenny Leraas of Minneapolis, Justin Rautio of Burnsville, MN, Tracine Nedoroscik of Browerville, MN, Karla (Scott) Gustafson of Dallas Center, IA, and Kurt (Shantelle) Haraldson of Maple Grove, MN; great-grandchildren, Colton, Ella, Kenna, Kaden, Zakry, Zara, Jack, Anna, Joseph, Millicent, Brady, Toby, Blake, and Harmon. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends. She was proceeded in death by her parents, John and Alice; her brothers, William and Julian; her sister, Shirley; and her husband, Lawrence.
Visitation: 5 - 7 PM Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Elbow Lake, and one hour prior to services at the church.
