Irene Miller

Irene Annetta Cushman was born to Walter & Margaret Cushman in Charlesville, MN on March 24, 1915. She lived and attended rural elementary school in Minnesota, and at the age of twelve, moved with her mother to Exeter, NE where she graduated from high school. She became qualified for a teaching certificate and taught rural elementary in Nebraska for 5 years. Irene was united in marriage to Harold Miller on May 24, 1938 in Exeter, NE. The couple made their home in McCool Junction, NE. In the early 1940's, they moved to Minnesota in the same vicinity where Irene was born. On September 24, 1943 their son, Paul was born and in 1945, Irene & Harold began farming in North Ottawa Township. In 1947 they moved to a farm in Elbow Lake Township and their daughter, Jane was born on December 13, 1948. They retired from farming in 1972 and went into the upholstery business. They moved to their home in Wendell in 1984 where they continued that line of work until Harold passed away in July of 1987. Irene continued doing light upholstery and sewing, even after moving to Elbow Lake in November of 1999 and did this until May of 2011. She then moved to the Edina Care Center where she remained until her death. Irene enjoyed quilting, tap dancing, gardening, seamstress work, playing cards and was always ready to help other people. She was witty and had a great sense of humor. She purchased her new PT Cruiser in 2002 and delighted in driving it around. She was an active member of West Elbow Lake Lutheran Church. Irene passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014 at the Edina Care Center in Edina, Minnesota. She is survived by son, Paul (Gigi) Miller of Edina and Jane (Tom) Larsh of Lambton Shores, Ontario, Canada; brother, Dale (Barbara) Cushman of Port Angeles, WA; 3 grandchildren, Mollie (Ryan) Garden, Tony (Noel) Bollman, and Steven (Caroline) Bollman; and nine great-grandchildren. Irene is preceded in death by her parents, Walter & Margaret; husband, Harold; 1 sister, Ruth Sjostrom; 1 brother, John Cushman and one granddaughter, Adrianna Miller. Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Friday, December 19, 2014 at Bethlehem/West Elbow Lake Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Clergy: Rev.
