Ivadel Larson

Ivadel Larson, 86 of Elbow Lake, died Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Valley Ridge Nursing Facility, Burnsville, MN.

Ivadel Janet Larson, 86, was born January 20, 1937, at her parents’ farmhouse near Barrett, MN. She attended school in Barrett and graduated first in her class in 1955. While growing up, she was active in 4-H and won many ribbons for her skilled embroidery and handiwork projects. 

Ivadel married Jim Larson on August 30, 1958, at Lien Lutheran Church near Barret. They became members of United Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake, MN, when it was founded that same year and had been members ever since. After marrying, Jim and Ivadel moved to the Larson family farmhouse and together they raised five children.  Jim and Ivadel later moved from the farm to Elbow Lake in 2000.  

In addition to being a very busy farmer's wife (bringing lunch to the field, driving tractor when needed, etc.), Ivadel also worked as a teacher's aide at Elbow Lake Elementary School for over 20 years, as she enjoyed working with children.  She also started and grew a successful business of raising chickens that were sold locally.  She was always up for traveling, going with her husband and family around the USA and Europe. All her life, she continued to create beautiful, crafted things that were functional, such as sewing clothes, making quilts for grandkids, and embroidering towels. At United Lutheran Church, she was head of the Dorcas Quilters that made quilts for people in need and a regular member of the Women's Circle Bible Study. She loved attending numerous events of her children as they grew up and then going to activities and achievements of her 6 grandsons.  Flekkefest in Elbow Lake and Christmas were favorite family times together. 

On Sunday, March 19, 2023, Ivadel passed away at Valley Ridge in Burnsville, MN, at the age of 86.

Ivadel is survived by her five children - Cindy Larson of Chicago, IL, Brad Larson of Elbow Lake, MN, Brian Larson of Breckenridge, MN, Allen (Lisa) Larson of Savage, MN, and Dean (Marlene) Larson of Maple Grove, MN; six grandchildren - Jacob (Deni) Larson of Falcon Heights, MN, Nicholas (Ellen) Larson of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Matthew Larson of Savage, MN, Joshua Larson of Savage, MN, Layton (Tianna) Larson of Dayton, MN, and Caleb (Lauren) Larson of St. Michael, MN; and two great grandchildren - Logan and Theo Larson of Dayton, MN.

Ivadel is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, sister Darlene Anderson, and nephew Michael Anderson.

Memorials preferred to United Lutheran Church at 215 10th Ave. SE Elbow Lake, MN 56531. Please designate memorials to either: United Lutheran Quilters or WELCA (Women’s Group).

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at the United Lutheran Church, Elbow Lake with visitation one hour prior to the service.
