James “Jim” Porter, 83, of Tintah, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021, at Prairie Ridge Hospital in Elbow Lake.
Jim was born to Percy “Pete” and Alice Porter on May 22, 1938, in Tintah. He attended school in Tintah.
On May 18, 1968, Jim married Jean Towers at the Congregational Church in Tintah. To this union, two children were born, Shawn and Kathrine “Kate.”
Jim spent his childhood and early adult life on the family farm before becoming a heavy equipment operator. He was involved in building many Minnesota highways and roads. Jim also drove truck professionally throughout the years. Jim worked his final years with the Traverse County Highway Department before retiring. He enjoyed horses, hunting, target shooting, and two-cylinder John Deere Tractors.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Porter of Tintah; son, Shawn (Julie) Porter of Hermantown, Minnesota; daughter, Kathrine (Roman) Bosworth of Glendive, Montana; brother, Duane (Marcy) Porter of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; sister-in-law Debbie Porter of Tintah, Minnesota; along with numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna, and two brothers, Patrick and Michael.
Per Jim’s wishes, a memorial service will not be held.
Erickson-Smith Funeral Home of Elbow Lake is assisting the family with arrangements.
