Jerald Sumstad

Jerry Sumstad, 69 of Elbow Lake died Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at his home. Jerald Lee Sumstad was born on April 11, 1947, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Melvin and Annie (Wedin) Sumstad. He was baptized and confirmed in the Grue Lutheran Church of rural Ashby. Jerry attended Rural School District #71 in Tordensjold Township, and then graduated from the Underwood High School in 1965. He served six years with the Army Reserves as a supply clerk. Jerry lived in Dilworth and then moved to Elbow Lake where he was employed with Red Owl, then worked for Dieseth Specialty Company of Dalton, TWF Industries of Barrett, and then in Alexandria. Jerry's last job was taking care of the animals at the Grant County Humane Society in Elbow Lake. He is survived by four children, Renee (Todd) Larson of Ham Lake, Nicole Sumstad of Elbow Lake, Darin (Therese) Sumstad of Forest Lake, and Lezlie Sumstad of Brandon; four grandchildren, Brady, Lindsey, Emma and Brittany; three brothers, Dennis (Loretta) Sumstad of Vining, twin brother, James Sumstad of Vining, and Ronald (Carol) Sumstad of Alexandria; along with numerous other relatives and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Annie Sumstad.
