Joan W. (Johnson) Anderson, 76, of Barrett, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2009, at the ELEAH Medical Center in Elbow Lake. Funeral services for Joan Anderson will be at 11:00 am Thursday, February 5, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Barrett with Rev's Cordell and Mary Carol Strug officiating. Burial will be in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Barrett. Friends may call at the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Elbow Lake on Wednesday form 4-7 pm; visitation will resume at the church one hour before services on Thursday. Joan was born on May 22, 1932, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, to Willie and Vida (Sumstad) Hoff. She grew up and attended school in Ashby where she graduated from high school. She was employed with the First State Bank of Ashby. On March 10, 1951, she was united in marriage to Manton Johnson at the Pelican Lake Lutheran Church in Ashby. The couple made their home and farmed near Barrett. She and Manton rarely missed a Saturday night dance at the Barrett Pavillion. Joan and her friend Karen (Pattison) Steffen owned and operated JK Ceramics in Barrett into the early 1970's. Manton passed away in 1979, and Joan moved into Barrett where she continued to work at Olson's General Store and later at Carroll's General Store. In 1987, Joan married Elliard Anderson, and they made their home on the farm east of Barrett. Joan worked at the Grant County DAC until her retirememnt. In 1993, Elliard passed away, and Joan continued to live on the farm until August 2007, when she moved into the Barrett Care Center. Joan especially enjoyed visiting and spending time with her family, friends, and her dog Daisy. She also enjoyed reading, traveling, cooking, and doing word find puzzles. Survivors include her children Donna (Greg) Erickson, Ruth Ann Johnson, Michael (Rhonda) Johnson, Jacqueline Hotvedt, Carole Williams, Daniel Johnson, and Gary Johnson; grandchildren Eric (Michelle) Jenson, Mandy (Michael) Braaten, Brett (Bonnie) Jenson, Chelsey (Cory) Anderson, Alisha (Matt) Hendrickson, Trent Jensen, Kimbery Hotvedt, Kyle Hotvedt, Joshua Williams, Jessica (fiance' Kevin Schulte) Williams, Jacob Johnson, Justin Johnson, Jared Johnson, and Andrea Johnson; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eloise Hamilton and Wilma Raber; several cousins, five nieces, and her dog Daisy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Manton Johnson and husband Elliard Anderson.
