Joanne was born in Dunlap, IA to William and Margaret (Roush) Rosenow on April 24, 1930. She attended Estherville High School and graduated in 1947. She went on to earn a degree in bookkeeping from Estherville Junior College and worked at a Dodge-Plymouth Agency in Estherville and later at Iowa Guaranty Inc. On April 1, 1950 she married Wayne Holl who had returned from military service and was working on a farm. Following marriage, they found a farm to their liking in the Hoffman area and soon were a busy part of the community. As their three children grew, Joanne found time for leadership in Scouts and 4-H Club. Looking to the future for their children's college education with their youngest in fifth grade, Joanne entered Alexandria Technical College and earned her accounting degree. After working for many years at an accounting firm in Alexandria, she took a year of leave from work then chose to open her own Joanne M. Holl Accounting firm in Hoffman. Joanne was an active member of the Lions Club for many years and received the Melvin Jones Fellow Lions Clubs International Foundation Award for dedicated humanitarian services. She served as a member of the Advisory Board of the Hoffman Good Samaritan Center. She received Woman of the Year Award in 1978 from the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club. She served on the Grant County HRA Board and was also active with the Hoffman Senior Citizens. She was an active member of Lands Church and then Messiah Lutheran Church when it was formed. Joanne found much joy in spending time with family at her cabin on Otter Tail River, visiting and playing cards with friends, playing bingo on Friday evenings, and occasionally attending Twins games at Target Field. She was an especially avid reader and enthusiastic Vikings football fan. She was devoted to her various pet cats over the years. Joanne is preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents William and Margaret Rosenow, great granddaughter Crystal, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
