Joel Hauglie, age 95 of Kensington, passed away January 31, 2016 at the Barrett Care Center. Joel Edgar Hauglie was born in Farwell, MN on August 5, 1920 to Albert and Clara (Halvorson) Hauglie. He grew up in Farwell and later moved to Kensington. He was baptized and confirmed at the Nora Lutheran Church, rural Kensington, where he remained a member his entire life. Joel worked for his dad doing carpentry work until he joined the US Army in 1942. He was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and then transferred to Minnesota. On June 27, 1946 Joel was united in marriage to Elaine Wetterling. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters. Joel worked for the Douglas County Highway Department and the Farmers Elevator until retirement. He was an active member of the American Legion/Auxiliary. He served on the Kensington Fire Department as Chief, and as Mayor of Kensington. Hunting and tinkering with projects at home, and with his cousin in South Dakota, were some of the ways Joel would spend his spare time. Joel is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Jo; his wife, Elaine (2005); parents; in-laws; siblings, Alton, Donald and Amy. He is survived by daughter, Julie (Hauglie) Poelaert; brother, Clayton; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Funeral Services for Joel are 2PM Saturday, February 6, 2016 at First Lutheran Church, Kensington, MN with the Reverend Irving Arnquist officiating. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial at First Lutheran Cemetery, Kensington.
