Johanna was born in Adrian, Minnesota, on July 16, 1914, to Heiko "Ike" and Minnie (Eilers) Frikken. At the age of 12, she moved with her family to Pomme de Terre Township in Grant County. Following her education, Johanna worked as a nanny for various families in the area. She pooled her earnings with that of her fiancé, Rudy's, money to purchase building materials for their first home. On May 27, 1938, she was united in marriage to Rudy Langmaack at the home of the Rev. Aasen in Elbow Lake. Johanna and Rudy lived in the house they built until 1951, when they moved to a larger home in Elbow Lake to raise their family. Johanna was an active member of her church where she taught Sunday school, belonged to the Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Daughters of the Reformation, as well as her homemakers group. She served as president of the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. Johanna served her community as an election judge, worked as a cook at the school and as a bookkeeper and receptionist for Rudy's business as a Standard Oil agent. She loved family picnics and parades. She will be best remembered for her chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and her fried chicken. Johanna especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was not only a grandma or a great-grandma or a great-great-grandma, but was "Grandma Great." Survivors include her daughters Judy (Dick) Lohse and Joanne Langmaack, both of Elbow Lake, and son Bob (Rosanna) Langmaack of Orange Park, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Frikken and Arlean Mounts, both of Elbow Lake; four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
