Jonathan Murtland

Jonathan Murtland, 27 of Elbow Lake fell asleep in death Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Jonathan Frank Murtland was born August 27, 1993, to Alfred and Kayla (Biss) Murtland in Alexandria, MN.   He attended West Central Area Public School, graduating in 2011.  Jon continued his education for two years at Alexandria Technical and Community College.  He graduated with honors from the  Computer and Voice Networking program in 2013.

In 2009, Jon began working at West Central Area Public School as a custodian.  While in college, he  began working  at Culver’s Restaurant in Alexandria. After completing his college education, he worked for both employers until November of 2020.

Jon enjoyed keeping up with technology, always upgrading his devices.  He liked playing video games during his spare time.  He loved listening to  music, both old and new, and attended concerts with family and friends.  At a young age, Jon became a fan of the Doors, the Beatles, and Rush.

Jon was a very kind and generous person.  He helped friends move, offered  his assistance with computer problems, and helped people in financial need.  He also had a great sense of humor and was known for his 'funny noises.'

He is survived by his parents, Alfred and Kayla of Elbow Lake; sister Bettina (Tina) Murtland of Elbow Lake; uncle Tony Murtland; uncle Kelly Biss of Elbow Lake, aunt Kimber Wolfe of Elbow Lake;  cousins Vaughn Rodman, Tiffany (Glenn) Davis, and Ben (Theresa) McAnnany, as well as numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Preceding him in death are his Grandparents, Elmer & Lucille Biss, and Alfred & Lorraine Murtland.

CDC Guidelines will be followed, with social distancing and wearing of masks.

Visitation: 2:00PM to 6:00PM, Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home, Elbow Lake.

Spring Interment: Union Cemetery, Elbow Lake
