Julie Kay (Hauglie) Poelaert was born March 25, 1959, and passed away on August 6, 2022. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Kensington, Minnesota. She graduated from Kensington High School in 1977. Julie married Paul Poelaert and they later divorced.
She pursued a career in nursing. Julie attended Willmar Area Vocational Technical Institute (now Ridgewater College) for training as a licensed practical nurse (LPN). She later completed education and training as a registered nurse (RN). She worked as a nurse at Hoffman Good Samaritan Center and later in the Twin Cities Metro Area.
As a child she enjoyed camping trips with relatives and traveled across the United States and Canada. Julie also spent happy times with relatives on a farm in Sisseton, South Dakota. She enjoyed dipping cookies in milk and reading comic books. She liked music and listened to records – Janis Joplin and Diana Ross and the Supremes. Julie studied piano and organ and served as a church organist. She was always a hard worker and as a teenager detasseled corn, mowed lawns, and did dog grooming to earn money. More than anything else, Julie loved dogs throughout her life. She was never without a pet.
Julie is survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and her beloved dog Monte Elvis. She was preceded in death by her older infant sister, Mary Jo, her mother Elaine (Wetterling) Hauglie, her father Joel Hauglie and cousins Bart Lofquist, Jon Wetterling and Loren Hauglie.
