LaRae Lee

LaRae L. Lee, 75, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at the Barrett Care Center. Service: Private Family Service LaRae Lydia Lee was born in New Ulm, Minnesota, on October 3, 1936, to Marvin and Grace (Juhnke) Gerth. She grew up on the Gerth family farm near Sanborn, Minnesota, and later moved to Westbrook, Minnesota. The family moved to Elbow Lake when LaRae was entering 9th grade and she graduated from the Elbow Lake High School in 1954. On July 20, 1954, she was united in marriage to Allen Lee and they had two children, Michael and Renee. She worked in the healthcare field for many years including facilities in Morris, Elbow Lake, Ashby, and also for Public Health. As a child, they spent much time on the farm and also at Lake Koronis. Later, she and Allen spent many summers at Ten Mile Lake with their children and friends. La Rae opened her house to all and often had a houseful of teenagers playing pool and eating food from their well stocked kitchen. She loved oyster stew at Christmas and watching her great nieces and nephews open their gifts. LaRae was a vibrant and funny person. She had a heart of gold especially to those dear to her. LaRae enjoyed helping Allen with his numerous gardens and large quantities of produce. LaRae was also known for her extreme love of animals. She had many dogs, cats and also fed the birds, squirrels and other animals faithfully each and every day she was able. LaRae was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Renee, who died in January of 2007. She is survived by her husband Allen Lee of Elbow Lake; son, Michael Lee of Centerville, Minnesota; her sister Carolyn (Stuart) Anderson of Elbow Lake and by numerous nieces and nephews. LaRae generously decided some time ago to donate her body for research to the University of Minnesota. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the Grant County Humane Society.
