Leonard Rosin, 75, of Norcross, died Monday, March 7, 2011, at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton.
Leonard Laverne Rosin was born on December 11, 1935, in Lien Township, Grant County, Minnesota, to Clarence and Elsie (Muetz) Rosin. Leonard was the sixth child of 13 children. Leonard was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, attended country school, and graduated from Barrett High School in 1953.
Leonard continued to help on the family farm until he was united in marriage to Carol Rarer on December 21, 1956. God blessed Leonard and Carol with four children: Robert, Keith, Susan and Miriam. Leonard drove truck for the Mendelson Egg Company for several years. Then he sold farm tools for many years, traveling from farm to farm in several states. Eventually, Leonard established his own tool company, Len Rosin Distributing, out of Oberlin, Kansas, where the family lived for 25 years before returning to Minnesota.
Leonard loved to build, remodel, fix and repair things. He realized his dream when he made the closed Lutheran church in Norcross, Minnesota, into a beautiful home for his family. He was so proud of it! He was still working on the home and yard until his stroke. He planted hundreds of trees and worked so hard on his yard, always improving in any way he could. Leonard enjoyed watching the Twins and Vikings on television and drinking coffee with the guys in the coffee shop.
He is survived by Carol, his wife of 54 years; sons Dr. Robert (Kami) Rosin of Scott City, Kansas, and Keith (Terry) Rosin of Sharon Springs, Kansas; daughters Susan Wells of McCook, Nebraska, and Miriam (Danny) Shaw of Selden, Kansas; his mother-in-law, Linda Rarer, of Norcross, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brothers Virgil (Kitty) Rosin of Elbow Lake, Kenneth (Barb) Rosin of Gaylord, Ellerd (Jan) Rosin of Blaine, Gerhard (Jan) Rosin of Grand Rapids, and Donald (Sharon) Rosin of West Fargo, ND; sisters Lois Fagerberg of Elbow Lake, Delores (Dave) Johnson of Golden Valley, Marlys (Ed) Swetman of Edina, Marilyn (Paul) Gatz of Winsted, Eunice Wiebolt of Brainerd, and Kathryn (Bill) Schmieg of Rapid City, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Elsie Rosin, his brother Orvin Rosin, sister-in-law Darlene Rosin, brothers-in-law Rev. Merle Fagerberg, Henry Petrie, Kenneth Wiebolt and Robert Rarer; and his father-in-law George Rarer.
