LeVonne Swanson

May 3, 1919 — October 6, 2016

LeVonne Swanson, a woman of many names, many talents, and many friends, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, October 6, 2016, in Edina at age 97.   She was born in Elbow Lake on May 3, 1919, to parents Ole and Anna (Dahler) Halvorson, and lived most of her life there.  LeVonne was an energetic girl who loved dancing and having fun.  Later in life she acknowledged that she may have given her parents an occasional headache. LeVonne met and married her first husband, Sander Sethney (deceased 1989), to whom she was married for 51 years. Together they raised two sons, Michael and Gary.  You could often find the entire family at the town ballpark or at many major league ballparks around the country.  Her love and support for the Minnesota Twins never wavered until this year when they severely tested her patience!   LeVonne's love of socializing ultimately helped her to get a job that would become a 40+ year career at the Bank of Elbow Lake, later Eagle Bank.  Her friendly demeanor and love of conversation made her a trusted employee and earned her many friends.   Bowling, golfing, and playing cards were among many of her activities outside of work.  She also enjoyed watching baseball, sewing, knitting, quilting, and hosting many family get-togethers.  Active in her church, LeVonne taught Sunday School at St. John's, and was involved in the women's ministry.  She also enjoyed spending time with her daughters-in-law. Many holidays were spent laughing, playing Triple Solitaire and eating pecan pie for breakfast,   After Sander passed, life took LeVonne to Arizona for the winters where she enjoyed more dancing, card games and visiting with friends old and new. While in Arizona, LeVonne met John Swanson (deceased September 21, 2016) who would become her husband in 1997.  Together they traveled the world enjoying many beautiful places and meeting new friends.    Although it was difficult leaving Elbow Lake, where LeVonne and John donated their time folding bulletins for the church each week and working at the Thrift Shop, they relocated to Burnsville to be closer to their families. LeVonne was preceeded in death by her parents, her husbands Sander and John, and her half-brother Carroll. She is survived by her sons Michael (Charlene) Sethney of Owatonna, MN and Gary (Jo) Sethney of Florence, AZ; four grandchildren, Kristi Sethney of Eagan, MN, Scott (Kari) Sethney of Eagan, MN, Cathy (Chris) Harris of Owatonna, MN, and Lisa (Randy) Martin of Slayton, MN; and six great grandchildren, Tyler, Alec, Amber, Michael, David, and Andrew.  She is also survived by John's family, his son John (Lynn), and grandsons Eric and Reid (Nellie Munn) who were always kind and loving to her.   LeVonne remarked many times to all who knew her, "I've had a very good life!"   A Memorial Service will be held to honor LeVonne on Friday, October 28, 2016 at United Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake, MN.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with the service at 11:00 AM.
