Lloyd Sherwood

Lloyd Sherwood, 89, of Cold Spring, MN, formerly of Aitkin and Elbow Lake, died Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Assumption Home in Cold Spring. Lloyd Clifford Sherwood was born on October 23, 1926 at his family's home in Harding, MN. He was the sixth of seven children born to Alva and Anna Sherwood. Lloyd attended country school one and a half miles from their home through eighth grade and went on to attend Onamia High School, graduating in 1945. After graduation, he worked in Onamia at the Co-op gas station and later followed his sister Loretta to Red Wing, MN, working for the Red Wing tanning factory for the next two years. He then moved to Minneapolis, living with his sister Lila and attended Minneapolis Business College, where he completed his classes in 1951. He moved to Boscobel, WI, going to work for Borden Milk Co. Boscobel, WI is where he met his future wife, DaVon Infield. They were married June 20, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boscobel. Borden Milk transferred Lloyd to New Ulm, MN and their first son, Mike was born in New Ulm in August of 1954. Their second son, Greg was born in October of 1956.

Lloyd moved to Aitkin, MN in 1956, going to work for Production Credit Association. In 1958, Lloyd and DaVon bought a 40-acre hobby farm eight miles south of Aitkin on Highway 169. They continued to grow their family by having their third son, Barry, in June of 1961. Their daughter, Nadene was born in September of 1968. In 1971, Lloyd went to work for Security State Bank in Aitkin first as an insurance agent and later as a loan officer. Lloyd and DaVon wanted to buy their own business and in 1981, Lloyd and DaVon purchased Strand Insurance in Elbow Lake, MN, later renaming it to Sherwood Insurance. He and DaVon ran the insurance agency together until retiring and selling the business in 1997.

Lloyd and DaVon remained in Elbow Lake until DaVon's death in 2008. At that point, Lloyd lived with his daughter Nadene and her family in Richmond, MN until moving into Assumption Home in Cold Spring, MN in 2013. Lloyd loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was very active in his community of Elbow Lake and his church, Bethlehem/West Elbow Lake Lutheran Church, serving as Treasurer.

Lloyd is survived by three of his four children, Mike (Tonia) Sherwood of Bemidji, MN, Barry (Kimberlyn) Sherwood of Mora, MN, and Nadene (Scott) Kruize of Richmond, MN; grandchildren, Justin (Amanda) Sherwood, Brian (Sarah) Sherwood, Cori (Nate) Barker, Courtney (Ryan) Cramer, Samantha (Trevar) Carlson, Joshua, Jordan, Jacob Kruize and Aron (Kali) Anderson; and by 10 great-grandchildren. Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Anna; his wife, DaVon; son, Greg; and his siblings Lily, Lila, Lawrence, Loretta, Lester, and Lewis. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Bethlehem/West Elbow Lake Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake, with visitation beginning at 9 AM at the church.
