Luella Kosek

Luella Kosek, 93, died Sunday, November 3, 2013, at Stevens' Homes Plus, rural Barrett. The memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Hoffman with the Rev. Matthew Rose officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Elbow Lake. Luella was born July 3, 1920, in Stony Brook Township, Grant County, Minnesota, to Albert and Mendina (Folken) Asleson. She grew up near Wendell, receiving her elementary education at District 12 and attending two years of high school in Wendell. She continued her high school education in Fergus Falls. On August 26, 1938, Luella was united in marriage to Laurel Fagre in Fergus Falls. The couple farmed near Wendell until Laurel entered the service in 1943. After his discharge they resumed farming in various locations until 1948, when they purchased their own farm. In 1956, they retired from farming and moved into Elbow Lake. Luella was employed at the Mendelson's Egg Company for several years. After Laurel's death in 1966, Luella continued to work at various jobs. In June of 1976, she was united in marriage to Jim Kosek, and the couple made their home on a farm north of Wahpeton. Luella worked for 15 years at the Four Seasons Plant Center and one year at Breckenridge Floral. Jim passed away in December 2010, and Luella moved into the Rolling Hills Assisted Living Center in Barrett in April 2011. She moved to the Stevens' Homes Plus in rural Barrett in March 2013. Luella enjoyed dancing, baking and cooking, appliquéing sweatshirts, visiting with people and taking care of people. She is survived by her children Dale (Cill) Fagre of Alexandria and Lynda (Wally) Andersen of Hoffman, daughter-in-law Marlene Fagre of Barrett; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Luella was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Laurel Fagre and Jim Kosek; two sons, Donnie and Tim Fagre; one grandson, Scott Bordson; two sisters, Anna Karlstad and Mabel Pederson and two brothers, Merton and Herbert Asleson.
