Luella Leverson, 93 of Kensington, died Monday, April 8, 2024, at the Hoffman Senior Living Center.
Luella Helen Clara Wiederhoeft was born October 7, 1930, to Albert and Emma (Becker) Wiederhoeft on her family farm in Antrim Township, rural Truman, Minnesota where she also grew up. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church South. Luella attended the Truman Public School, graduating with the class of 1948, and after graduation began working at Fairmont Electric & Hardware.
On September 7, 1952, Luella was united in marriage to Orville Leverson at South Branch Lutheran Church of rural St. James, Minnesota. After their marriage, they began farming near Lowry where Luella was a homemaker and farm wife, until the family moved to Kensington in 1968. Around 1970, Luella started working for the Evansville School District as a school nurse, then at the University of Minnesota Extension office as a home nutrition education advisor, and her last job with the Douglas County Library working in the children’s library. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for sixty-eight years, 50 Plus Club, Route #55 Red Hat Girls, and bowling league. She loved birthday parties, celebrating her own for a month, garage sales, bargain shopping, dancing polkas, waltzes and square dancing. Luella liked the Minnesota lakes and boating. She traveled to Alaska, Arizona, Porto Vallarta, and enjoyed cruises.
She was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Kensington and was involved in many community events. Luella loved family reunions, spending time with her children and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
Luella is survived by her children, Emmy Maheux of Kensington, Curtis Leverson of Anchorage, Alaska, Jerry (Gail) Leverson of Park Rapids, Bruce (Tammie) Leverson of Osakis; six grandchildren, Sarah (Justin) Carlstrom, Brian (Katey) Leverson, Adam Leverson, Brandon Leverson, Erika (Ryan) Forga, and Lawrence (Dorothy) Lawson; seven great-grandchildren, Elliot, Maxwell, Xander, Jahbari, Nairobi, Taylor and Natalie; brother Norman (Berniel) Wiederhoeft. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville on February 11, 2010; parents, Albert & Emma Wiederhoeft; sister & brother-in-law, Cordelia and Floyd Eickoff.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at First Lutheran Church, Kensington.
Visitation starting at 9:30 AM until the time of the service.
Interment: First Lutheran Cemetery, rural Kensington.
