Margie Violet Hanson (Giles, Wiener) was born on June 17, 1924 and passed away on February 25, 2017 at the age of 92 of cancer, diagnosed only a month ago. She was the youngest of seven children born to Clarence and Junia Giles near Balaton, Minnesota, all of who predeceased her. The Giles lived on several farms while Margie grew up. She graduated from Ogilvie High School in 1942 and moved to Marshall to become a telephone operator, a job she held for 29 years. After a brief marriage to Glenn Jacobson, who drowned in 1942, she met Bob Wiener whom she married in 1945. They had two daughters, Bonnie Jill born in 1946, and Roberta (Berta) Rae born in 1947. Unfortunately, Bob died of a heart attack at age 35. Marge stayed in Marshall to raise her daughters. In 1976 she married Warren Hanson and moved to Elbow Lake where she met new friends, golfed, and travelled with Warren. She always travelled back to Marshall to see her sisters, Ina and Lory, as well as her telephone operator friends. Ina Died in 2014 at the age of 100, and Lory died at age 93 in 2012. Marge loved the community of Elbow Lake. She and Warren loved golfing at Tipsinah Mounds Golf Course with their friends, attending the United Lutheran Church, and going out to enjoy a meal of walleye pike. One of their most treasured trips was to Norway that they won in a drawing at Flekkefest. She looked forward to her annual trip to California to visit her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After Warren died of a stroke in 2001, Marge stayed in the family home on 3rd Avenue until last September when she moved to the Rolling Hills Residence Assisted Living in Barrett. She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie (Michael Hayden) of Edina, MN, and Berta of Danville, CA; five grandchildren: Kimberly Fugman (Brett) of Fresno, CA, Mike Powers (Laura) of Danville, CA, Bridget Hayden (Jeremy Kienitz) of Edina, MN; Jaime Drake (Kirsten) of Danville, CA; and Kari Lessard (Michael) of Edina, MN. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren: Connor and Chad Fugman; Jack, Shane and Cooper Powers; Max and Alice Kienitz; Taylor and Grayson Drake; Juliette and Bobby Lessard. She lovingly made cookies for all of her family. Special thanks to her friend Val Johnson who provided comfort and support while Margie was in hospice.
