Norma Sandberg

Norma Ruth Sandberg, 95, of Hoffman, MN passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021 surrounded by family.

Norma was born January 8, 1926, in Barrett, MN to Norman and Rosetta (Johnson) Isakson.  She graduated from Barrett High School in 1944 and went on to receive her teaching degree from Moorhead State University Minnesota (MSUM).  She was hired for her first teaching job as an elementary teacher in Evansville, MN.

Norma married the love of her life, Paul Sandberg, on October 2, 1948.  They were blessed with five children: Gregory, Eric, Scott, Julie, and Kristen.

After moving to Slayton, MN in 1970, Norma resumed her teaching career at the Fulda Elementary School.  She returned to college, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Southwest State University in Marshall, MN.  She continued teaching in Fulda, MN until her retirement in 1986, when they moved back to their hometown of Barrett, MN.  Eventually they moved to Hoffman, MN where Norma continued to live.

Norma loved sewing and quilting, especially making table runners to share with all of her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed decorating for each season and holiday. She was an avid book reader, and also loved her Norwegian heritage and traditions.  Her favorite thing was spending time with her family, who meant the world to her.

Norma is survived by her children, Gregory Sandberg, Eric Sandberg, Scott (Kathy) Sandberg, Julie Sandberg, and Kristen (Jim) Beech, sister Devona Winter, grandchildren Joshua Sandberg, Nathan Sandberg, Isaac (Anna) Sandberg, Jacob Sandberg, Erin Sandberg, Andy Sandberg, Katie (James) Determan, Emil Medelberg, Christopher (Autumn) Sandberg, Melissa (Jimmy) Stanley, Eric Sandberg, David Sandberg, Scott (Shelby) Beech, Ryan Beech, and numerous great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by Paul, her husband of 67 years, her parents, her sister Carolyn Alke, daughter-in-law Cheryl Sandberg, and her infant brother Carlton Isakson.

Memorial Service: 2:00 PM Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Peace Lutheran Church, Barrett with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM.

Inurnment at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Barrett.
