Orville Lien

February 23, 1928 — June 29, 2016

Orville Malen Lien of Elbow Lake, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at the Evansville Care Campus at the age of 88 years. Orville was born in Lincoln Park, Michigan, on February 23, 1928, to Sigvart and Clara (Malen) Lien. He was baptized at Missouri Synod Lutheran Church in Lincoln Park by the Reverend Keintmatz and confirmed in 1942 at the Rock Prairie Lutheran Church. He graduated from the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris in 1945. On April 30, 1955, Orville was united in marriage to Lorraine Kay Pergande at the United Church of Christ in Fergus Falls by the Reverend W. Berger. They dairy farmed until the fall of 1963, when Orville began his career in sales as a representative for "The Farmer" magazine and was an insurance agent. He also sold aerial photos for four years. He and Perk continued to live on the farm until 1985, when they moved to Elbow Lake. Orville became a resident of the Evansville Care Campus in March 26, 2013 until the time of his death. Orville enjoyed reading, socializing, going out for dinner, and dancing. He and Perk also enjoyed traveling. Orville cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Rock Prairie Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and served on the church council. He was also a member of the Elks, Eagles and Lions Club. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lorraine "Perk"; children, Jacquelyn Hauglie of Starbuck, and Anthony Paul Lien of Moorhead; grandchildren, Charity Hauglie, Corwin (Cathie Carlson) Hauglie, Cassandra Hauglie, Nicholas (Amanda) Kvamme, Dustin (Tuyen) Lien; great-grandchildren, Colton, Sawyer, Anthony, Damon, Quinton, Tyler, Payton, Jordan, Katrina, Dustin Anthony, Jr., and twins, Aspen and Paisleigh; great-great-grandchild, Aubrie; sisters, Vivian (Frederick) Schutte of Appleton, WI, and Beverly (Charles) Landgraf of Anacortes, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Loren Hauglie. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Rock Prairie Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior to the service.
