Palmer T. Harstad, 67, Barrett, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at the ELEAH Medical Center in Elbow Lake. Funeral services for Palmer T. Harstad will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at the United Methodist Church in Herman with the Rev. Mickey Olson officiating. Burial will be in the Kongsvinger Cemetery, rural Donnelly. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday at the church.
Palmer Theodore Harstad was born February 6, 1942, in Morris, Minnesota, to Arthur and Selma (Thompson) Harstad. He was baptized and confirmed at the Kongsvinger Lutheran Church and attended school in Stevens County District 36 , Donnelly elementary and Morris High School. At the age of 18, Palmer was drafted into the US Army and served in Germany. Upon his discharge, he worked in Minneapolis for a few years at Industrial Plating. He eventually returned to the area where he lived in Donnelly for a period of time before moving to the farm in Norcross with his mother and step-father. Palmer entered the Barrett Care Center a year ago. He was involved in carpentry and farming most of his life. Palmer is survived by his mother Selma Bruse of Norcross, brother Stanley (Konnie) Harstad of Herman, one niece and one nephew, one great-nephew and four great-nieces, and his aunt Elnora Bevins. He was preceded in death by his father Arthur Harstad and step-father Everet Bruse.
