Pearl Anderson

Pearl M. Anderson, 92, formerly of Wendell, died Wed., Aug. 8, 2012, at Stevens' Homes Plus, rural Barrett, under the care of Lakeland Hospice. Pearl was born on March 2, 1920, in Sanish, North Dakota, to Peter and Mary Margaret "Maggie" (Solvey) Murray. She was united in marriage to Clifford Raymond Anderson on May 29, 1939, in Sisseton, South Dakota, and the couple settled on Pomme de Terre Lake. They later moved to Hoffman, Minnesota, where their five children were born. In 1956, they moved to Wendell where Cliff became the manager of the Farmers Co-op Oil and Pearl became the bookkeeper, a job she held until her retirement. Pearl's hobbies included gardening, embroidery, quilting and word seek puzzles. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid, Circle, the Altar Guild, quilting and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 426 for 47 years. In 1987, she and Cliff were co-chairmen of the Wendell Centennial Celebration. Pearl and Cliff helped organize the Wendell Town and Country Senior Citizens, and in 1993, she was named Grant County Senior Citizen. Clifford died on December 31, 1992. She later moved to Elbow Lake and then to the Rolling Hills Residence at Barrett. In April 2010, Pearl moved to the Stevens' Homes Plus in rural Barrett. Survivors include her children Pat (Dave) Allen of Lincoln, Nebraska, Carroll "Bud" (Mona) Anderson of Elbow Lake, Ruth (Bob) McClain of Cook, Leon Anderson of Lakota, Iowa, and Gloria (Don) Weigand of Wendell; 16 grandchildren: Colin (Lori) Allen, Siobhan Wendland, Jeff (Sherlyn) Anderson, Susan (Dennis) Bakken, Jeannie (Shawn) Noack, Butch (Michelle) Wentland, Kathie (Ray) Kvalvog, Steve (Jodi) Wentland, Andy (Lori) Anderson, Tom Anderson, Sheila (Ed) Minick, Darin (Melissa) McClain, DJ (Emily) McClain, Brandi McClain, Penny (Blayne) Leuthard and Wendy (Allan) Groth; 28 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Luella Gulbrandson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sisters-in-law Muriel Murray of Hoffman, Edna Paetow of Barrett, Betty Anderson of LeSueur and Florence (Louis) Anderson of Tamerack; brother-in-law Phillip Stavos of Sauk Centre and brother-in-law Orin (Irene) Anderson of Milwaukee, Oregon. Pearl was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Maggie Murray; brothers Perry (Edna) Murray, Mervin (Edna) Murray, Russell (Blanche) Murray and Harvey Murray; sisters Della Stavos, Florence (Joie) Boots, Ruby (Edrald) Nelson, Frances (Bill) Blehr and Lloyd Gulbrandson; sisters-in-law Bertha Buffington and Mary Ann Anderson; brothers-in-law Walter Paetow, Russell Anderson and Harold Anderson; and brothers- and sisters-in-law Virgil and Hazel Anderson and Earl and Lorraine Anderson. Funeral Service: 2 PM Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wendell. Visitation: 5 - 7 PM Friday, August 10, 2012, at Erickson-Smith Funeral Home, Elbow Lake, and also one hour prior to services at the church.
