Ramona Jean Kruize, age 82, of Fergus Falls, formerly of Wendell, died at Lake Region Healthcare on March 14, 2017.
Ramona (Mona) was born July 6, 1934 in the original family home south of Wendell to Ambrose and Lila (Berg) Estenson. She attended country school and graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1952.
On May 25, 1954, she was united in marriage to Henry (Hank) Frank Kruize and they had two daughters, Kay and Jacqueline. They farmed the original homestead until Hank passed away in 1987. She took great pride in being a partner in raising the crops and livestock. She remained on the farm until 2010 when she moved to the Vart Hjelm apartments in Elbow Lake. She remained there until health conditions required additional health care. She moved to the Barrett Care Center for a short time and then to the Broen Home in Fergus Falls.
Mona was a woman of many talents. She thoroughly enjoyed the personal interactions she had while working at her jobs within the Elbow Lake community, including the Grant County Herald, Rowdy's Lunch Counter, Mendelssohn Egg Hatchery, Lake Region Veterinary Center and Torguson Drug in Elbow Lake. In addition, she was the Elbow Lake Township clerk for many years.
Mona loved people. Mona knew everyone and everyone knew Mona. She was loved by all and had many friends. One of her very special friends was Rosalie Olson of Wendell. For many years, every night shortly before 10 pm, the two of them would call each other to discuss the "worldly events" of the day. Mona and Hank loved dancing and playing cards, especially Whist. After Hank was no longer with her, she was blessed in finding a special friend, Milton Lacina, who also enjoyed dancing and playing cards.
She will be remembered by her two daughters, Kay (Gary) Jennen of Fergus Falls and Jacqueline (Mick) Gingerich of Minnetonka; 7 grandchildren, Jay (Theresa) Jennen of Forest Lake, Anthony Jennen of Vadnais Heights, Jill (Luke) Wehseler of Brainerd, Laura (Joseph) Anton of Brooklyn Park, Christopher Jennen of Vadnais Heights and Kathryn & Aaron Gingerich of Minnetonka; 9 great-grandchildren, Megan, Jack, Tyler, Gavin & Michael Jennen and Max, Katelyn, Isaac, & Nolan Wehseler; a sister, Helen Swenson of Barrett; brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer (Irene) Kruize of Fridley, Jane (George) Rosenow of Ashby, and Alice Anderson of Richfield; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, on February 7, 1987; one sister, Alene (Wesley) Magnuson; four brothers-in-law, Vernyl Swenson, Vernon Kruize, John Anderson, Wesley Magnuson, and friend, Milton Lacina.
The family expresses their gratitude to the staff at the Broen Nursing Home for their professional care and loving kindness and a heartfelt thank you for all those who stopped by to visit her.
