Roger James Erickson, 79, of Elbow Lake, MN and a recent resident of the Barrett Care Center, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at the Prairie Ridge Hospital. He was born on July 10, 1935 in Tintah, MN. He attended Morris Ag School and graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1954. On November 3, 1956, he married Mary Ann Williamson at St. Gall's Catholic Church, in Tintah, MN. He was employed by Mark's Sand & Gravel and the Grant County Highway Department before moving to St. Paul. He worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad, the Milwaukee Road Railroad, and the St. Paul Union Depot as a Special Agent for 12 years. He then moved back to Elbow Lake in 1972 and worked at the Grant County Highway Department before farming for 11 years. He then purchased a road grader and was self employed as a heavy equipment operator doing road maintenance for 5 townships until his retirement in October of 2001. He loved ice fishing, coin collecting, playing cribbage, playing cards, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of St. Olaf's Catholic Church and served on the cemetery board for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus of Millerville.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Erickson of Elbow Lake; four daughters, 13 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren – Carol Lohse (Chad & Amy – Carter & Ava; Cory & Dawn – MacKenzie & Abygayle, Troy & Michelle – Jordan, Adam, Ashlyn & Jada; Joey & Sarah – Kira), Marcia (Hank) Petermann (Curtis; Henry & Melissa – Connor; Amanda & Mike – Zoe, Noah, Elijah, and Gracie), Judy & Bruce Jorgensen (Brenda, Sarah, Andrew, and Laura), Cindy & Warren Niesche (Joel and Mark). They were foster parents for 20 years – they had 7 long term foster children. He was preceded in death by his parents , Leonard and Otilda (Stump) Erickson, 2 brothers – George (Erma) and Leonard, Jr. (Judy), 2 sisters – Lenore (Arthur) Hawkinson and RoseAnn (Harvey) Gerhardson.
