Roger A. Schoephoerster, 88 of Hoffman, died Thursday, January 9, 2020, at the Barrett Care Center.
Roger was born August 18, 1931, to Willis and Lena (Kolke) Schoephoerster in Dawson, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in Canby, MN and graduated from Morris School of Ag. In 1952, he entered the U.S. Army, serving in the Military Hospital in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, working in Medical records. He was honorably discharged in 1954.
On December 13, 1953, he married Marilyn Gubrud at Florida Lutheran Church in rural Canby. To this union four children were born, Reed, Marsha, Kurt and Eric. Roger worked as a Dairy farmer until they sold their cows in 1990 but continued to feed heifers for ten more years. He also worked as a seed dealer. Roger was very involved in the community serving on the elevator board, creamery board and the soil and water conservation board. He was a member of Messiah Church where he sang in the choir and the Alexandria Barbershop quartet.
Roger’s interests include pheasant hunting, music, which included singing at weddings and funerals, showing quarter horses where he won numerous awards, and deciding which was his favorite, most beautiful granddaughter. He was an avid Minnesota Gophers and Vikings fans. Roger cherished spending time visiting family and friends.
Roger is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Hoffman; children, Reed (Roni) Schoephoerster, Marsha (Stanley) Vistad of Grand Forks, ND, Kurt (Diane) Schoephoerster of Dawson, MN and Eric Schoephoerster of Grand Forks, ND; a sister, Ruth Ann (Duane) Sundin of St. Peter; 8 grandchildren, Bethany (Nate) Addink, Anna (Ben) Meland, Holly (Korey) Leafblad, Elizabeth (Jesse) Vistad, Andrew (Megan) Vistad, Aaron Schoephoerster, Leah (Darin) Prestholdt, Heidi (Dane) Prestholdt; 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Ronald; sister, Lois Bartlow; granddaughter, Rachel Schoephoerster and grandson, Nicholas.
Visitation: Tuesday, January 14, 2020, from 5-7 P.M. with a 6:30 Prayer Service at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Messiah Lutheran Church.
Clergy: Pastor Eliza Johnson and Pastor Reed Schoephoerster
Interment: Lands Cemetery in the spring
