Ronald E. Nelson, 86 of Elbow Lake, MN left this earthly life on March 23, 2016. Ronald was born on January 15, 1930 in Morgan, MN to Reynold and Rachel Nelson, and graduated from high school in Madison, MN. In 1952, Ron served in Korea as a soldier in the Army. On August 22, 1953 he married the love of his life, Ina Ruth Hendrickson. They moved to Elbow Lake in 1957 and raised their family there. Ron and Ina were a well-known team with State Farm Insurance for 40 years. Ron's Christian faith guided his life. He served on the Grace Evangelical Free Church Board, taught Sunday school, and was a youth advisor. He was also a Gideon. He served in the community as president of the Lion's Club and was a member of Life Underwriters. Ron took an active involvement in politics and worked with Paul Aasness and Torrey Westrom on their campaigns. Ron enjoyed tennis, jogging, water skiing, and going out for coffee with the guys. He loved anything related to cars and helping people find them. He is survived by his wife, Ina; son Dennis (Kaye) of Henderson, NV and daughter Cynthia (Steve) Nyquist of Zimmerman, MN; grandchildren Sarah, Andrew (Jessica), Anna (Quinton) Gessner and Emily (Brandon) Meland; brother, Alan (Mary) Nelson; sister, Brenda (Louie) Korf; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11AM Saturday, April 2, at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Elbow Lake with a visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, Ron's family asks that memorials go to Grace Free's Mission Fund or the donor's preferred charitable organization. Erickson-Smith Funeral Home of Elbow Lake is assisting the family with arrangements.
