Roy Bondley

May 24, 1934 — September 4, 2014

Roy Bondley, 80, of Elbow Lake, died Thursday, September 4, 2014, at Pioneer Cottages in Fergus Falls. Roy Peter Bondley was born in Wibaux, Montana on May 24, 1934, the son of Casper and Elise (Lund) Bondley. One of seven children, Roy moved with his family as a child to Thief River Falls, Minnesota, where his parents purchased a farm. Roy attended school in Thief River Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School. For a short time, Roy traveled to Montana to work on the railroad, before returning home again to join his family on the farm. On July 14, 1953, Roy married Deloris Dunrud in St. Hilaire, Minnesota, and they were blessed with five children. A short time later, Roy moved the family to Fargo, North Dakota, and later Harwood, to work as a truck driver for E.E. Hurner Truck Lines and Red Owl Groceries and in the later years, Lewis Truck Lines, retiring in 1992. After retirement, Roy and Deloris moved to Pelican Rapids, MN, and in 2009, they moved to Elbow Lake, MN. Roy loved cutting wood, and could often be found outdoors cutting wood for his fire pit and wood boiler, often manhandling logs much larger than he. He enjoyed fishing, working in his shop, and loved camping with his family and friends. Roy and Deloris took many trips over the years, including visits to Alaska, Nashville, and Montana, to name a few. Most important to Roy was his family and the fact that they were a close one. He was a member of the Teamsters. Roy is survived by his wife, Deloris, of Fergus Falls; five children, Diane (Steve) Holten of Pelican Rapids, Carol Bondley of Portland, Oregon, Brenda Raschka of Pueblo, Colorado, Larry (Jane) of Little Falls, MN, and Tammy (Gif) Giffey of Elbow Lake; six grandchildren, Jesse, Jayme, Taj, Shem, Ari, and Janessa; three step-grandchildren, Jason, Jared, and Jenny; numerous great-grandchildren; siblings, Myrtle (Stan) Robison of West Fargo, ND, Evelyn Hruby of Thief River Falls, MN, and Emma Borslien of Crookston, MN; and a sister-in-law, Devonna Noreen, of Thief River Falls. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by a sister, Annette; two brothers, Carl and Martin; a son-in-law, John Raschka; and Al Bandvik; brothers-in-law, Ralph Carlson, Richard Hruby Sr., and Gilmore Borslien; and sisters-in-law, June and Lorraine Bondley.
